Our Challenge
Increase employee's education and engagement in sustainability and develop
tools and support structures that position motivated employees to contribute to
the company's sustainability goals.
Strategic Response
Create framework that engages employees to take on localized
sustainability-related projects while also positioning middle and senior-level
leaders to capitalize on opportunities at the departmental level.
- Duke Sustainability Corps: Grassroots network of volunteeremployees who champion sustainability among their peers and colleagues and lead work-related sustainability projects
- Sustainability Leads: Management-level leaders responsible for identifying and addressing the top sustainability opportunities in their departments
- Creation of
supporting tools, including a sustainability handbook, education video, and a
tracking tools to measure financial and environmental impacts of employee-led
projects
Results:
- Duke Energy tracked significant cost savings and waste, energy and carbon reductions based on employee-led Sustainability projects
